Harry Lime was wrong - Italy was not nearly as violent and Switzerland not nearly as peaceful, or uninventive …link

  1. Switzerland did not have 500 years of peace. The relative peace it did have during the Thirty Years War was partly because its major export was mercenaries. Catholic and Protestant cantons fought each other during the Reformation, there was a peasants’ revolt in the 1600s, all sorts of trouble and intrigue during Napoleonic times - and the last Catholic/Protestant civil war was as late as 1847!

So on yer bike, Harry Lime.
