Against disabled rights

From CroziervisionWiki

I should begin by saying that I am not against the disabled having the same rights as anyone else. What I am against is them having greater rights than anyone else, particularly in areas such as transport. I do so because:

  • this inevitably leads to regulations, which I am against
  • these regulations inevitably impose costs on the rest of us eg rail costs, enforcement bureaucracies

There are also some other reasons which I am reasonably sure about but am not quite there yet:

  • they encourage people to think of themselves as victims
  • they make people less polite (see here for an example)
  • they "crowd out" the alternatives. By this I mean that when the disabled have "rights" backed by legislation people find themselves less inclined to volunteer to help.
