Japan National Rail (JNR) was the name of Japan's nationalised railway operator from 1949 to its privatisation in 1987.
[edit]
On the upside
It:
- seems to have run a reasonably competent service
- built the Shinkansen (bullet train lines)
[edit]
On the downside
It:
- made huge losses
- suffered from a succession of strikes
- was less efficient than its private sector equivalents
- suffered from more overcrowding than its private sector equivalents
