Why I am not sure about copyright protectiion

I am in two minds on this issue:

Against
- it involves force
- copyright periods seem to going up, usually every time Micky Mouse is about to come up for grabs
- copyrights are alway expressed in terms of a number of years. You can always tell that a law is wrong if it involves a number

- it is difficult to see why people should create things if they're not going to get paid for them. I know some have suggested it can all be done by contract ie if I show you this fantastic picture of mine you agree not to copy it but it is difficult to see how that would work in, say, the case of a radio station airing a song
