Why drug bans lead to drug gangs

From CroziervisionWiki

The problem for drug dealers is that disputes over supply, payment or whatever cannot be resolved by recourse to standard law enforcement or court systems. Nor can the players use standard commercial security solutions. They cannot call Group 4 or Securicor to protect their warehouses or goods. They cannot generally call in experts in threat management like Kroll or ex-SAS members, as a banking, jewellery or bullion firm might.

Instead, they must arrange their own ad-hoc solutions ie violence. And because their solutions are violent ones, people who are attracted to violence are attracted into the industry. And because the industry attracts violent types this is why other "non-contractual" disputes eg competition also tend to have violent outcomes. How often do we hear stories of McDonald's staff burning out the local Burger King?
